Our Conferrals

At The Insurance Institute, we believe conferrals are about much more than receiving a qualification - they are an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the hard work, dedication, ambition and perseverance that have made each achievement possible. Every graduate's journey reflects a commitment to professional excellence, lifelong learning and personal growth. Our Conferral Ceremony brings together graduates, families, friends, colleagues and employers to mark this significant milestone, celebrate success and acknowledge the positive impact our graduates are making across the insurance profession.

Eligibility

The Insurance Institute Conferral Ceremony recognises and celebrates members who have achieved professional designations, including the Certified Insurance Practitioner (CIP) and Member of The Insurance Institute (MDI). These designations represent a member's professional standing within the insurance industry and are formally conferred during the ceremony.

Gown Hire / Photos

The Insurance Institute Conferral Ceremony is a formal graduation event, and all conferring recipients are required to wear academic dress, including a gown and cap, as part of the ceremony. Academic robes reflect the tradition and significance of the occasion, marking the achievement and professionalism of those being conferred.

To support members attending the ceremony, The Insurance Institute subsidises the cost of gown hire through our conferral partner, Armstrong & Oxford.

Graduates can have professional graduation photographs taken on the day of the Conferral Ceremony, providing a lasting memento of this important milestone. Photography sessions can be booked for an additional fee through our academic dress partner, Armstrong & Oxford, when arranging your gown hire.

Each graduate can invite two guests to join them on the day – please book guest passes when booking your gown via the Armstrong & Oxford booking portal.

Full booking details and instructions on how to order academic dress and photography will be provided to our graduating class in advance of the ceremony.

Accessibility & Special Requirements

The Insurance Institute is committed to fostering a culture of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. We want every graduate and conferring recipient to feel welcomed, supported and able to participate fully in the Conferral Ceremony. We will work with individuals who require additional assistance or accommodations to ensure they can enjoy this important milestone comfortably and confidently.

Frequently Ask Questions

  • Each graduate may bring up to two guests to share in this special occasion and celebrate their achievement.

  • Academic qualifications are awarded separately by Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Sligo. Qualification parchments are issued directly by ATU and are posted to graduates following completion of their studies. As a result, academic qualification parchments are not presented during The Insurance Institute Conferral Ceremony.

    The Insurance Institute confers professional designations, including CIP and MDI. Designation parchments are issued digitally and are stored in the Member Portal.

  • We understand that not everyone can attend the Conferral Ceremony in person. If you are unable to join us on the day, your designation will be conferred in absentia, ensuring your achievement is formally recognised as part of the conferral process.

    While you may not be present at the ceremony, your accomplishment will still be acknowledged and recorded, and you will be able to access your digital designation parchment through your Member Portal.
