Future-Proofing Insurance: The TY Programme Making a Difference

The Insurance Institute of Ireland is playing its part in tackling the insurance industry’s talent crisis with a pioneering Transition Year (TY) Programme designed to inspire 16-17-year-olds and reshape perceptions of insurance. Responding to an ageing workforce, skills shortages, and limited awareness of insurance careers among young people, the programme blends financial literacy, sustainability, and real-world insurance insights to show how the industry underpins society and addresses global challenges.

Through interactive online modules, classroom engagement, and a planned in-person schools initiative, students explore everything from climate resilience and ethical consumerism to the diverse modern career paths available in insurance and the educational routes into these. With strong early feedback from teachers and learners, the TY Programme is emerging as a powerful bridge between industry and education - supporting Ireland’s talent pipeline, elevating public understanding, and potentially sparking the ‘recruitment revolution’ the industry urgently needs.
