A unique, online self-directed learning experience, designed to engage 16–17-year-old students in exploring insurance literacy, including how it relates to financial literacy and sustainability.

What's the TY Programme about?

The Insurance Institute of Ireland is excited to launch its Transition Year (TY) Programme.

This inclusive and accessible programme is tailored to meet the needs of students from diverse backgrounds helping them build future-ready skills while connecting classroom learning to real-world challenges.

The programme introduces students to:

  • Financial literacy – understanding money, making informed choices and becoming responsible consumers.
  • Sustainability and climate change – exploring how everyday decisions impact the planet and how the insurance industry is responding.
  • The role of insurance in society - demystifying the sector and showing how it supports individuals, communities and global goals.
  • Insurance education and careers - introducing students to the diversity of careers in the insurance industry and the educational routes into them.

What’s in it for TY students?

  • IMPROVE financial literacy and awareness of sustainability
  • DEVELOP critical thinking and real-world learning
  • DISCOVER diverse careers in insurance
  • EARN a certificate for their TY portfolio

One career route into insurance to consider is the highly successful Level 8 Hons Degree Insurance Practitioner Apprenticeship.

Why should schools get involved?

  • Curriculum aligned with TY goals of personal development and career exploration
  • Inclusive and accessible - no prior knowledge of insurance or sustainability required
  • Engaging and relevant – connects learning to students' lives and future choices
