What is the Management Diploma in Insurance (MDI)?

The MDI is our advanced professional qualification. The content, delivery, and assessment of the programme is designed to enhance your technical knowledge and develop key management skills such as critical thinking, report writing, research and problem-solving.

The MDI gives you in-depth and specialised insurance expertise, as well as greater business acumen at the management level. It also allows you to accumulate credits that count towards the Advanced Diploma in Insurance (ACII) qualification.

How it works

The MDI is delivered through a blended learning combination of face to face lectures* and online self-directed learning. To assist with this, we have designed a range of study supports, with the modern-day professional in mind.

  • Structure: 5 modules
  • Exam sittings (if applicable): May, November
  • Fee: €550 per module + membership fee if you're not already our member. Learn more

  • Course delivery: Online study
  • Assessment method: Assessment methods are changing on a phased basis over 2019 and 2020. Learn more
  • Completed CII exams: If you have completed exams directly with the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) in the past, please let us know at memberservices@iii.ie or 01 645 6670 before you register. This is to ensure that you don't register for any MDI modules that correspond to CII modules you have already completed.

Moving from the MDI to the Chartered Insurance Institute's ACII

If you're thinking of pursuing the ACII in the future, the MDI is an excellent qualification to achieve first. Not only will you attain the knowledge and skills that an advanced insurance qualifcation offers, but you can also claim CII credits on successful completion of the Management Diploma in Insurance.
