Our mission

We exist to provide a forum for retired Galway-based insurance professionals, and their spouses to keep in touch. We believe that regular contact is key.

We are an autonomous organisation within the wider Insurance Institute network and operate under the auspices of The Insurance Institute of Galway.

Our history

The idea for this initiative was born following a conversation between Chairperson, Majella King and Denis Kelleher at the 2017 Galway Past Presidents’ event. As Denis told Majella about the success of Arís Cork, it struck her that this would be a great thing for the Galway insurance community too.

Following the event, Majella met with other retired members of The Insurance Institute of Galway who agreed that they would benefit greatly from their own chapter of Arís. Gerry Bradley, Mary Burke, Amanda Dempsey, Majella King, John Melia, John McGinley, Michael O’Regan, Eoghan O’Sullivan, Les Perry & Tony Royliston were among those in attendance.

Our inaugural meeting took place in April 2018 to great success. Alongside the many retired insurance professionals in attendance were Dermot Murray, CEO of The Insurance Institute, Noel Grealish TD, Ger Dowling of Arís Cork, Arlene O’Brien, then-president of The Insurance Institute of Galway and incoming president John Walsh.

We would like to thank Ger Dowling of Arís Cork, Arlene O’Brien (Galway President 2017-18), John Walsh, Jim Molloy and the wider local institute council for their help and support in getting this initiative off the ground. Equally, we are very grateful to Dermot Murray, CEO of The Insurance Institute and his staff for their assistance.
